Metrobike allows its users to rent out unused bicycles in exchange for free metro rides. The service makes it easy to utilize otherwise idle bikes and help other people move around the city in a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly way.
Metrobike activates existing yet underutilized forms of transport and adds to the growing trend of the sharing based economy. This culture of trust and accountability catalyzed by such economies has the capability to activate; instilling connectedness and active community participation.
The service seeks to reduce city bike clutter, displacing bikes from outside the stations to within the Metro bike cellars. Equipped with electronic locking systems, the cellars would serve as Metrobike stations allowing easy mobility both within the reach of the Metro line and beyond to the city parameters.
